Vote for a Renewable Energy Future!

GIRDWOOD-RAISED WOMEN SHARE IMPORTANT MESSAGE OF MOVING TOWARD A RENEWABLE ENERGY FUTURE THROUGH SUPPORT OF SELECT CHUGACH ELECTRIC BOARD CANDIDATES!

On March 30, Gabby Markel and climate scientist Aurora Roth shared compelling information at an evening gathering they organized at The Writer’s Block in Spenard. The presentation was well attended, brief, informative, and respectful of Chugach Electric leadership and employees while making an appeal to rate payers to vote for Board candidates that support more aggressive action toward renewable energy generation.

Gabby serving as the MC for the presentations …

Aurora sharing important science concepts and explaining the challenges at hand …

[Full disclosure, Gabby is my stepdaughter … and Aurora is her long-time friend that used to be my neighbor! What fun and inspiration to see these young women organize a meeting to help shape a better future!]

They made the case that the current Board of Directors is not moving quickly enough towards transforming our energy economy. The asks are straight forward:

Let’s …

+ Improve member engagement and energy democracy

+ Work to substantially increase renewable energy generation for Southcentral Alaska to compensate for continuing reduction of local produced natural gas and to reduce carbon emissions

+ Why not build a more just energy future for us all?

If you pay a bill to Chugach Electric, you can vote for its Board of Directors from April 19 to May 19, 2023. You will receive an email with info on electronic voting, and if you do not receive a ballot, call 907-563-7633 to make sure your info is correct and request on!

These are the three candidates most dedicated to renewable energy:

Shaina Kilcoyne, Susanne Fleek-Green, Jim Nordlund.

Did you know that only about 11% of ratepayers vote in the annual election? If all of us inspire just a few people to vote for these candidates, we can bring positive change and work toward a more renewable energy future.

For more information, check out Chugach Ratepayers Alliance at www.Chugachalliance.org.

Feel free to forward this information to ratepayers you know who might support these candidates.

Thanks for listening, Kirk.
